I swear I formulated my "Hunger Games" opinion before reading Stephen King's review of it from a few year's back. But when I read it today, I was mildly pleased to see he agreed with me. Or I agreed with him, I guess.
What cracks me up is he agreed with me that the name Katniss Everdeen is ridiculous. Twirly Boggs would have been better, if you asked me.
This is not to say I didn't find (as he did) the book gripping because I did. And I then logged into my library account and reserved copies of the book on CD. There's a long line on all the books (and so many of them in the high schools and junior highs -- all our libraries are linked together -- which are overdue; I imagine pree-teens unable to bring themselves to return the books) so I put in for the audio books in hopes I can rip them to my PC and listen to them later on my iPod. If that doesn't work, I'll just have to wait for the books, along with all the other teenage girls.
And now I have a cold, so my ears are killing me along with the sinuses under my cheekbones. And my throat is still a little sore. And I'm coughing this dry, hacking cough that makes my throat hurt even more.
Off to a fundraiser breakfast tomorrow morning with my bestie. Money goes to paying for "honor flights" for WWII vets to get back to Washington, D.C., to see the memorial. I'll never get there, but I'm glad they'll get a chance. I wish my they had started those flights while my dad was still healthy enough to have gone.
